Are you getting enough sleep? Most adults don't. It is easy to turn this bad habit around with the following 7 tips to get better sleep. 7 Tips to Get Better Sleep

The great news is that it’s so easy to turn this bad habit around. I know it can be tempting to squeeze that last bit of work in or read just a few more chapters of a riveting book, but by putting sleep first, you will be able to accomplish much more the next day. Here are 7 tips to get better sleep:

  1. Just turn the light off (sounds so simple, but it’s not!)
  2. Set a bedtime and stick to it.
  3. Avoid electronics before bed (TV, computer, phone, etc.). The light stimulates your senses.
  4. Do something relaxing- like meditation or taking a warm bath. It’ll soothe your entire body.
  5. Exercise regularly to relieve stress and tension.
  6. Avoid caffeine hours before bedtime, you don’t want to stay up, you want to SLEEP.
  7. My nights became much more peaceful when I finally invested in a good pillow. Consider even trying a body pillow!  You can position them in a number of ways, and I found that simply laying on my side, hugging the pillow through the night did the trick. But, also be sure to replace your pillows overtime.

Today’s post is one that I’m continuing to work on in my life.  If you have additional tips, please share!

  1. Great tips! I particularly need to pay attention to #3 – I have a bad habit of bringing my iPad to bed with me and using it for a good hour or so before I shut down… which I’m sure doesn’t help my sleep habits! Thanks for sharing these ideas.

  2. Thanks for these great tips! I struggled with insomnia for a long time. My best way to get better sleep is to stick to a routine, usually a cup of camomile tea and reading before bed.

  3. I have a terrible habit of watching TV as I fall asleep. I’m trying to be better about stretching before I go to bed. Thanks for sharing some tips.

  4. Hi Marie! I think we all underestimate how very important good sleep is for us all. People are constantly doing all sorts of things to be healthy–like exercising and eating the right food–but they forget without a good nights sleep they are not really that healthy. Thank you for your excellent suggestions. ~Kathy

  5. Good tips but unfortuantely they don’t work for me. I’ve had insomnia for almost 18yrs. I’ve tried everything but sleeping pills. However, our mattress is 30yrs old. End of this month we FINALLY get a new one. Hoopefully that will work.or at least help.

    • I hope so too, JoJo! Sometimes a little change is just what you body needs for great sleep. Thanks for commenting.

  6. Good sleep is SO important. It’s funny, I used to beg my parents for a later bedtime, and now I get cranky if I have to stay up past 10 (#momlife). Thanks for sharing your tips!
