Benefits of Dark Chocolate

What if I told you to eat lots of chocolate because it’s good for you? Would you look at me like I was crazy? But it’s true! Learning the healthy benefits of dark chocolate eased a new path for me when indulging in sweets. Now, I can enjoy a bar of dark chocolate with no regrets, and it sure pairs well with a glass of dessert wine.Did you know there are benefits of dark chocolate? Learn the facts behind it, and enjoy a bar or two guilt free.

Before you get excited, this doesn’t extend to all types of chocolate – milk chocolate and white chocolate do not fall into this category. Dark chocolate has a slightly more bitter taste, but nothing that you can’t get used to. In fact, some people prefer the taste. Cory is a huge dark chocolate connoisseur. I like buying different bars for him to try. Over the years, he has claimed that his favorite is Lindt 70% (for it’s balance) but he has been known to grab a 90% every once in a while.

Dark chocolate comes in varying percentages of cocoa. You can experiment until you find your favorite. Just remember, the higher the percentage of cocoa, the healthier.

See what studies have shown that dark chocolate can benefit your health. Here are a few of the most important:

Antioxidants – Dark chocolate contains a high dose of antioxidants which protect your cells from damage. But, there is a caveat – if you drink milk along with it, you may be disrupting the absorption of those antioxidants.

Lowers blood pressure– But be sure to account for the extra calories you are consuming and make adjustments elsewhere

Lowers LDL ‘bad’ cholesterol

Acts as a natural antidepressant

Why not live loud and clear and indulge in some yummy dark chocolate.

  1. We love Dark Chocolate in this house. Such great benefits as well as taste. My husband likes the 90% but I just can’t handle that one. Too bitter for me. 🙂

  2. Any woman who espouses the eating of dark chocolate is my new best friend!! Great info that I needed to explain that bag of dark chocolate chips in my refrigerator.
