Traveling is always a joy! But I find I’m craving for greens is extreme each time I get back home. So today I ate a BIG salad and feel so much better after weeks of traveling.
Today I Ate A Big Salad For Lunch
After visiting the United Kingdom for the last few weeks I was craving leafy greens! While we were gone we didn’t see the big salads that we see here in California. We did find broccoli a few times and carrots are pretty big over there, too. They serve peas with their fish and chips almost everywhere. It was great when they were fresh peas verses their mashed peas. I’m not a huge pea lover.
We tried a traditional Scottish dish called Haggis with Neeps and Tatties. I finally broke down to ask what Neeps and Tatties were – turnips and potatoes. Duh, now that makes sense. Of course, grilled tomatoes and mushrooms are served almost daily with breakfast.
I was ecstatic to discover that I only had put on 2 pounds while I was gone considering how much ale we drank….daily. 🙂 More on ale in a future post.
We didn’t eat much in the way of processed food while we traveled. Thankfully we ate mostly locally grown and fresh produce, especially as we ventured into Scotland. With all the walking we did in London, the stairs we climbed at the Cathedrals, and the fresh food in Scotland it must have counterbalanced the ale calories. WOOHOO!!!!
I do have to admit that I’ve had Chinese food twice already since being home before I ate a big salad. Not that healthy, I know, but it’s my favorite food and I went over two weeks without it. But at least I picked back up with my workout this morning at 6am (as I woke wide awake at 3am) and I walked for 1/2 hour today, too. I hope to sleep better tonight! Fingers crossed!
