My 40 Day Transformation

My 40 Day Transformation

This week I want to share with you a total experience that encompasses diet, exercise, mental and spiritual health. Last night I started my 40 day transformation at Zuda Yoga in Folsom for their workshop entitled ’40 Day Transformation’. I just started with yoga in earnest a few months ago and I’m in love with it. And the instructors at Zuda are amazing! The workshop was originally scheduled to begin in August, which I just knew I couldn’t fit into my life at the time. But it got bumped by a few weeks, and the timing was meant to be.Need a change in your life? Take this journey with me to your 40 day transformation. A little goes along the way, and in time, you'll find your purpose.

My 40 Day Transformation

They described the workshop as ‘Looking to change your habits and rid your life forever of things that are holding you back? Can you commit to a personal and positive change in your life? Are you up for the challenge?’

The workshop meets every week for six weeks and each week includes:

  • A yoga practice to do every day
  • Principles to cleanse your body, along with a specific eating plan
  • Instructions to begin and deepen a meditation practice
  • Excavation questions to root out limiting beliefs and patterns

The workshop is based on Baron Baptiste’s book ‘40 Days to Personal Revolution‘. Some of you may know, I love journaling, but these days I never find the time to do any, and this is part of our weekly commitment….so I’m pretty excited about it. When Cory and I took a trip to the coast not too long ago, I bought a wonderful new journal, that I hadn’t used yet, and wasn’t even sure what it’s purpose would be. I just knew I had to have the journal for some future use. And it’s perfect for this next 40 days!

40 Day Transformation

The book answers the question: Why forty days? ‘Because the number 40 holds tremendous spiritual significance in the realm of transformation. Jesus wandered in the desert for forty days in order to experience purification and come to a greater understanding of himself and his mission. Moses and his people traveled through the desert for forty years before arriving at their home in the holy land. Noah preserved the sacredness of life by sailing his ark for forty days and forty nights. According to the Kabbalah, the ancient Jewish mystical text, it takes forty days to ingrain any new way of being into our system. That is what we are aiming to do here: wipe out the old and welcome the new. In forty days, you can shift into a whole new way of living and being.’

I’ll be sure to keep you updated as I go along my journey. I’m excited to have made the time for something that I think will mean a lot to me. I’m not sure I can meet the suggested goal of yoga practice 6 times a week, but I’ve modified the goals to fit what I can make work with my schedule. I plan to keep my other exercise activities during this 40 days, e.g. kickboxing and pilates.

For the first week, we are starting to log our meals, which I’ve done from time to time before, and I know it works. It makes you more accountable when you can see what you are eating. We have some journaling exercises to complete.

We are starting to work on breathing and meditation for just 5 minutes at a time. For me, this really means, learning to sit still for 5 minutes at a time and just breathe. As they joked last night, meditation is not meant to be some possessed state of being where you eventually levitate off the ground. It’s meant to slow us down and make us be ‘in’ the moment.
