Who is Charles Duhigg?
Charles Duhigg has been writing for The NY Times since 2006, but some of his popular articles since 2011 are:
- Change One Habit to Change Everything
- How to Form Healthy Habits your 20s
- How Asking 5 Questions Allowed Me to Eat Dinner With My Kids.
In 2011 he started his quest that led him to writing one of his best-selling books. And like that isn’t enough, his amazing writing got him the Pulitzer prize for explanatory reporting in 2013.

Creating Good Habits
Charles Duhigg dug deep into the very serious scientific study of habit formation in 2011. He wanted to find the secret to how habits work in our lives and how they affect our actions, thoughts and productivity. He then wrote his book The Power of Habit sharing his discoveries.
He has done extensive research on the topic and has garnered much information from all the time he dedicated to this project. He learned this so well that he has amazing anecdotes and examples to explain his points. He is also a wonderful speaker that has done TEDx talks. I’m a sucker for TEDx talks.
The Cookie Urge
Below is one of his best videos. It is short, sweet and chock full of chocolate chips…I mean valuable tips.
Productivity = Happiness
In his newer book Smarter, Faster, Better, Charles Duhigg goes into something that many of us use on a daily basis: To Do Lists! You can pre-order the paperback version now – it’s coming out in March.
We have been doing To Do lists all wrong! UGH!!! It was such a dreaded discovery, but one full of inspiration and his book is full of tips on how to create effective To Do lists to increase productivity.
According to Charles, To Do lists need to push us to get the bigger, most important things done and they tell us exactly how to get them done. The better our lists are done, the more productive we are and the more spare time we have to relax. And when you have more time to relax…need I say more?
You can get great resources straight from his website.
What does Charles Duhigg do to Relax?
What does Charles Duhigg do in his spare time to kick back and relax? What makes him happy? We know that he is happily married to his wife, whom he met while at Yale and they have two children together. But otherwise, finding rest and relaxation pointers were hard to come by in my Google search.
By reading his works, I can tell that he truly has passion for research and writing quality pieces. It’d be safe to say that once a big piece is done, he can finally relax.
But you’re still wondering how? I didn’t want to let you down, so we reached out via the old-fashion invention, the phone. In speaking briefly with him on the phone, Charles said that he likes to kick back and relax by hanging out with his two children and, a man after my own heart, he likes to read.
