Happiness Matters Spotlight: Michael Hyatt {Successful People and Their Happiness}

It is Michael Hyatt’s turn to be on the spotlight! He is a phenomenal person.  And you know I’m a sucker for books and his books are such great reads. Michael Hyatt is an author, blogger, speaker, and chairman and CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishers (now part of Harper Collins Publishing). He has a New York Times best-seller called Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World  and he also has a Wall Street Journal best-selling piece, Living Forward: A Proven Plan to Stop Drifting and Get the Life You Want.

His motto is, in a few words,

“Win at work and succeed in life.”

Seems simple enough.  But how do we get started? How do we make this a reality? By goal-setting, of course!

Michael Hyatt is an authority on this topic and he has a plethora of learning materials (books, articles and even podcasts) about the subject. I have really enjoyed listening to his podcasts because he is inspirational, but also practical. He offers tangible tips that can be applied every day.

It is Michael Hyatt's turn to be on the spotlight! He is a phenomenal person. Let me tell you about him and why his books are such great reads. Michael Hyatt is an author, blogger, speaker, from chairman and CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishers (now part of Harper Collins Publishing).

Michael Hyatt on Goal Setting

It has been scientifically proven that “Those who write their goals down accomplish significantly more than those who don’t.” Michael also says that “People who set goals are happier, live longer, get more done…” I really believe that! But writing goals down is an art to be learned. We cannot just make a list of to-dos and expect to do them. Michael explains that there are ways to write goals and get them done and there are ways to fail at making those goals more than simple aspirations.

Yes! You read that right! If you think you have a goal, but it doesn’t have certain characteristics, they aren’t goals; they’re aspirations. I love how he makes it easy to remember these tips on writing goals the right way. You have to read his book, Living Forward: A Proven Plan to Stop Drifting and Get the Life You Want to get all of the information and implement it, but I will share with you some bits right now.

SMARTER is the acronym to remember goal-setting the right way. Many of you have likely heard about SMART goals, but Michael takes it a bit further…into SMARTER goals.  These tips: Specific  Measurable  Actionable  Realistic  (has a)Timeline  Exciting  Relevant (to your current stage in life) are easy to keep track of and will help to accomplish more.  Being in the IT Industry and owning my own IT Firm has taught me that it’s super important to set yourself up to succeed when setting goals.

How to Live a More Fulfilled Life

Michael Hyatt is a pro at figuring this out. Don’t we all want to know how? In listening to some of his podcasts on on youtube, I learned so much!  His podcast is called This is Your Life.

He talks about:

His expertise doesn’t end there though! He also writes about to be an efficient writer, how to better focus, how to find more time, and the list goes on and on.

But how does he relax and find happiness, aside from work? On his website, he says, “In my free time, I enjoy reading, photography, fishing, and golfing. I am a member of St. Ignatius Orthodox Church in Franklin, Tennessee, where I have served as a deacon for twenty-nine years.”  He has a wife of 38 years, 5 daughters and grandchildren. His life is fulfilled and full of happiness.

He is really expanding his knowledge on photography, so be on the lookout for his fantastic work!  After running my photography studio for over 10 years, the biggest question I always used to get and I would love to know….Canon or Nikon, Michael?

Share in the comments how you are living a more fulfilled life.
