Michelle Gielan is a person to admire for her positive decisions in life, even though they were tough to make. She had a dream job at CBS and decided to quit. Yes, she just quit her job. It was a great job. It paid well. It had prestige and offered many networking opportunities. But what about happiness?

One drawback to the dream job that made Michelle make the decision to get out: Negativity.
Limit Negativity
Yes, negativity and how much of it she had to report on the daily made her quite uncomfortable. So she decided to pursue happiness and do something for a living that was positive! Read the rest of her story HERE. Michelle is now the Founder of the Institute for Applied Positive Research.

A Positive Brain Fuels Performance
According to her site, “A positive brain fuels performance, specifically by decreasing stress by 23%, improving creative problem solving by 20%, and increasing productive energy by 31%.”
That is incredible! She has more to say in the video below and in her book Broadcasting Happiness.
Michelle Gielan: Start Your Day Happy
Michelle recommends starting every day with something positive like hearing good news, sharing something good with someone, sending someone a loving email or writing a friend a sweet note. If we start the day on a positive note, chances are, our day will be more positive in general. It’s one of the 5 exercises I teach my clients, Start your Day Happy.
After battling depression in spite of a what some may call a ‘perfect life’, she knew she needed more happiness and she has found it since. Michelle is now married to another happiness expert, Shawn Achor, and has a young son, Leo (who is adorable).
Oprah said, “Shawn Achor and his wife Michelle Gielan are carving out new territory in the latest science on how positive thinking can literally change the trajectory of our lives.” They are definitely perfect for each other!
In reading up about this wonderful couple, they find communicating, positive conversations and asking each other leading questions is refreshing and recharges their batteries.
They also share how they have to travel for work and it used to be exhausting and an undesirable experience. Now, they have opted to take advantage of their plane time to make it a work-free zone. They totally disconnect, they relax, pay attention to each other and sit back and just be together. They really value and treasure this time now. And not only do they connect more as a couple and as a family, when they take their son along, but they also arrive refreshed and relaxed to their destination. What a great tip!
