We had our first book club meeting and it was a huge success! Eight out of ten of us girls were able to make it to the meeting. Our first book was a doozie! It was Cleopatra A Life by Stacy Schiff. This is a non-fiction, best seller and the hardest book I have ever tried to read. NONE of us finished this book. It was so dry and poorly written that it could not keep any of us tuned in to it.
Although the content was very interesting, I felt lost at the start of this book and was so relieved to hear the other girls in the club were struggling with it, too. We have some very smart ladies in our group including a teacher, but I was dreading having to tell them how hard this book was for me to read! Thank goodness we all felt the same about it. Jennifer and Kathy listened to the audio version so they actually finished it. Thankfully, Kirsten relayed the story to all of us in ‘normal person speak’ so we had a great discussion about it anyway.
A wonderful time was had by all and we’re all so excited to start the next book. No more non-fiction!
