Diet Tips for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a day filled with family, gratitude, and copious amounts of overeating. It’s not hard to do when Mom makes delicious stuffing and buttery mashed potatoes, and grandma makes her signature pumpkin pie. For me, the problem becomes even worse when we visit two sides of the family in one day. But, I don’t let Thanksgiving destroy my diet! Of course, you can let loose a little, and enjoy every bite, but that doesn’t mean you have to excessively indulge. You don't always have to overeat during Thanksgiving. Here are some diet tips for Thanksgiving that may just get you through all of the delicious food!

Drink Plenty of Water –It will make you full faster.

Eat Slowly –Give your brain a chance to recognize that you are full. it takes 20 minutes for your brain to catch up.

Eat Before you Go –This may sound strange, but eating a healthy breakfast and snack of protein and fiber will help you control your food urges. If you don’t, it’s just like going to the grocery store hungry. Haven’t we all experienced that?!

Eat the Special Stuff –Save your calories for those special foods that you only get once a year.

Avoid Hors d’oeurves –They are typically high in calories and fat.

Don’t Eat to Please –Every host loves when their guests go back for seconds. Show your love of the meal by telling them so, rather than eating til you pop. You can even share that you are on a diet, or just simply changing your eating lifestyle.

No Seconds –If you follow the above tips, you shouldn’t need seconds.

Sure, it’s only once a year, but it’s okay to also be healthy. Your body will thank you later. Share with me how you are living5x5 for Thanksgiving this year in the comment section below.
