The one thing I like to indulge on is a healthy cheeseburger. A lot of people misconstrue the healthy eating habit, and feel you can’t enjoy the foods you ate before, but they are wrong. Sometimes you just have to find what’s right for you, and tweak a few things here and there.
With this recipe, it contains only 259 calories. If you compare it to a burger you order at a restaurant like a Red Robin’s gourmet cheeseburger, it’s 826 calories. There’s definitely a big difference.
I’ve modified this recipe with using ground turkey, instead of beef. And, sometimes I like to add more veggies like spinach, or a little spring fresh mix on top of the lettuce and tomatoes. If you want a stronger taste, add grilled onions, or fresh red onions. There’s so many ways to make a burger, but be sure to keep it light and healthy.

Ingredients
- 3/4 lb extra-lean ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 2 tbsp finely chopped onion
- 2 tbsp chili sauce
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 4 slices (about 3/4 oz each) reduced-fat cheddar
- 4 whole-wheat hamburger buns
- Lettuce and tomato slices
- Spinach (Optional)
- Red Onion (Optional)
Instructions
- Mix first 4 ingredients. Form mixture into four 1-inch-thick patties.
- Broil 5 to 7 minutes on each side for medium to well-done burgers.
- Top each burger with a cheese slice right before removing from the oven.
- Transfer burgers onto buns, top with lettuce and tomato and serve.
Make this recipe fun with your family, too. Hope you enjoy!
