Life is busy. No doubt about it. We are all distracted by the everyday commitments of life. And it takes A LOT of focus to live in the present. But when you do, you will find your happiness level increase!
I have to share a personal story with you. Maybe you can relate? My sister and I love to catch up each week on the phone. In my normal fashion, I was “multi-tasking” while participating halfheartedly in our conversation. Then she called me out, in a way only sisters can do.
I didn’t know I asked the same question three times over the last week or two of our phone calls. I wasn’t living in the present. I was trying to do too much and my relationship was suffering.

Live In The Present
How would I feel if someone wasn’t really interested in what I had to say? I know I wouldn’t be happy. I know my actions affect others and I need to work on being able to live in the present more often.
Ralph Waldo Emerson gives some wonderful insight with his quote, “With the past I have nothing to do, nor with the future. I live for now.”

Of course it’s good to learn from the past and to make plans for the future, but we need to LIVE in the present. We must make an effort to enjoy the sunrise, have coffee with a friend, and be present in phone calls with our sisters!
Live In The Present Today
Unplug once this week and plan a date with a spouse or friend.
Why is unplugging important? With the distractions of the digital age, our focus is divided. Often that makes others believe we are not interested in our time with them. SO, leave the cell in the car, turn off the computer, and meet where there are no TVs!
Share with me in the comments where you left your phone while you met with a friend this week.

You are so right. So many times I am playing a game or not fully engaged when on the phone. Time to pay attention. Thank you for sharing.
As soon as I walk in the door, home from work, everyday, I turn off my phone. Unless my husband is away, I’ll keep it on. But it’s so I can focus more on my boys with the time I have with them. Totally worth it!
