You have control of your words and emotions. You have the ability to rise above the argument others may want to start and calm your mind for a better night’s sleep. Here’s how to rise above the negativity and be happy.

When is the last time you had a disagreement with your co-worker? How did it make you feel? Did you lose sleep or have a bad day because of it?

You have control of your conversation and emotions. You have the ability to rise above the arguments other may want to start and calm your mind for a better night's sleep. Here's how to rise above the negativity and be happy.

Know that you don’t have to let those times in your life define your happiness.  Fall back on what you know really matters in life and resist the urge to argue back with those picking a fight. It’s not worth your time.

How to Rise Above and Be Happy

Acknowledge there is an issue. Denying the fact that there is problem won’t help resolve anything for either party.

Be the bigger person and rise above. Plan a constructive meeting that works through misunderstandings or disagreements.

Try to see both sides. Look at the argument from the other point of view. Can you understand? Let them know you see their point of view. You can use “I statements” to be sure there is no blame.

Offer solutions. No one wants to be told they are wrong. Go into a meeting with a solution that will work for both parties.

Make sure there is resolution. State what the solution is, as far as you see it. And be sure there is agreement on the other end.

Refine if needed. Not all arguments are solved in one quick conversation. Make sure you follow up and make a plan to adjust your own thoughts if needed.

  1. I’ve been reading Tony Robbin’s book Ultimate Power and it teaches a lot about changing your state of mind in order to change your focus. It’s really be helpful for me to do just this, focusing on the happiness and rising above the negativity.
