A lot of people think that building an email list is the key to building consistent cash flow.
But to really do that, you have to keep your list engaging with your content!
Are you giving your readers value, building trust, and turning them into raving fans?
You hear marketers talk all the time about their lists.
And you already know that the money lies within your email list.
But while that’s true, it’s only part of the story.
You have to treat the people on your list right and provide them with good value.
To make money from your list, you have to do it right.
We go into a lot more detail about doing this the right way in my Nurture Faucet program.
Before we dig into the importance of building an engaged list and talk about the mistakes you want to avoid and what to do instead to build value with your list, there’s one thing I want you to remember…
Your “list” consists of real people.
They are not an abstract number in your autoresponder account.
They are people like you and me.
When you provide real value to your readers, they will reward you with loyalty, trust and, of course, sales.
Then, and only then is the money in the list and it becomes profitable to sit down and write an email to your readers a few times a week.
The Importance of an Engaged Mailing List
In order to have a successful and profitable online business, you need to provide real value to your mailing list.
And you need to engage your readers and build a relationship with them.
You’re Not The Only Game In Town
I hate to break it to you, but you’re not the only expert in your niche.
There are plenty of other blogs people can read and many other mailing lists they can subscribe to.
If you’re not providing your readers with valuable content, they’ll unsubscribe and head elsewhere.
Even worse, your subscribers may mark your messages as spam if all you’re sending them is offer after offer.
And once you get enough of these hits against you, it will hurt the deliverability of all your emails.
An engaged list, on the other hand, will improve your open rates and that will help deliverability across the board.
In other words, you need to treat your list right or it will get harder and harder to reach your audience as time goes on.
Treat Them Right And You’ll Earn Their Trust
Once you start to focus on providing value and what they need, your readers will start to trust you.
When that happens, they’ll look forward to receiving your emails.
In fact, they can’t wait to get them and open them.
Once you engage with your readers and build that close relationship, they’ll check in and see if everything’s ok on your end when you miss an email or are getting it out a little later than usual.
That’s the kind of engagement you’re looking for!
Once you get your readers to the point where they’ll anxiously open your email and can’t wait to read it, you’ll notice that your overall delivery rate will start to go up.
You’ll reach more of your subscribers who in turn might become raving fans of you and your content.
Your open rates go up, you’re continuing to provide great value, you earn your subscribers trust … and then (and only then) will you start to make sales as you recommend products that are a good fit to your list.
And it doesn’t stop there.
Once you start to gain loyal fans, they will start spreading the word for you.
They will forward your emails to their peers and recommend your website and your email list to others.
You’ll continue to grow without having to do much marketing of your own.
Engage Your Readers And You’ll Be Surprised What You’ll Learn
There’s something else that will happen as you start to open up and engage your readers.
As they learn to trust you because of the valuable content you’re sharing, they will start to reply to your emails.
Pay attention to what they are saying
There’s a lot to be learned about your audience and the better you get to know them, the better you can serve them.
As you learn about the problems and issues they are facing and as they are sharing what’s been working for them, you learn more about them and what they really need.
With that information, you can fine-tune what you’re offering to your list (both free content and paid offers).
You can also adjust your language, the examples you use and the likes to make sure it is something that resonates with your audience.
The better you understand your target audience and the more you know about them, the better you’ll get at marketing to them and providing them with exactly what they need, when they need it.
Paying attention to small details and helping them move to the next step (no matter what it is they need or want to accomplish) builds a strong relationship founded on trust and understanding.
If you do your job right, you’ll grow a list of raving fans that will come ask you for an affiliate link before they make a purchase and promote your list and your offers for you.
Isn’t that worth working towards?
It will make your job as an online marketer and list builder a lot easier and a lot more fun.
Building a list of loyal readers who know, like and trust you is well worth the time and effort it takes to make it happen.
Not only is it a highly profitable way to earn a living, but it’s also very satisfying to do right by your people and help them reach their goals or solve their problems.
Will you do what it takes to nurture that relationship and seek out the best information and products to share with your subscribers?
