Okay, the title is a bit of a tease. I didn’t see the queen, but Val and Rob did. Here’s the short story:
While we were inside touring the rooms, Cory and I were a room or two ahead of Val and Rob. Val glanced out the window to see the Queen of England coming down the stairs outside into the courtyard to get into her car (most likely heading back to Buckingham Palace in prep for the Royal wedding) and she yelled across the room to Rob (probably very loudly I’m sure) to come look. I’m so bummed I missed seeing the queen. Of course they didn’t take any photos since we were inside and photography wasn’t allowed…again.
Onwards to some pictures of Windsor Castle. We hired a private tour guide for this day, Harry Norman Private Tours. We started at Windsor Castle, then went to Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral (the next day). Harry, being a local, knew exactly what time we should arrive to avoid lines and the best part was his sense of humor. I would highly recommend hiring Harry for a private tour trip if you ever visit London.
Boys will be boys, right?!
This might be my favorite photo from Windsor Castle. Being little and short has some advantage as I scrambled into and amongst the crowds to get ahead of everyone and wiggled my way to the front. This was the changing of the guards at Windsor Castle since the queen was in residence there for her Easter vacation. And I could have reached out and touched them!
I probably ought to admit that I was shooting my camera over the top of a little boy’s head. 🙂
The massiveness of the building in comparison to the guards was startling.
St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
Val took a photo of me from the other side. Apparently I almost got ran over by these guys when I turned around to shoot this.
The (dry) moat surrounding the castle is now beautiful gardens.
Somehow, we managed to get a guard to stop and let us take a picture with him! Val and I were super excited!
