Aruba – Day 1 – The Beach

Cory and I finally got the chance to take our first ‘real vacation’ and went to Aruba with my sister and her husband. We were there for 7 nights, which was quite wonderful. On day 1, Cory and I both woke up at 7:30 a.m. like clock-work (4:30am PST). To think we would sleep in, but there’s too much to enjoy. We explored the white sandy beaches, and relaxed under the beach huts and blue sky while enjoying one of our favorite drinks, the Beach Comber!Aruba - Day 1 - The Beach - Our first day in Aruba was filled with white sandy beaches, beach huts, para sailing, good food, and more. At the hotel, they had life size checkers and chess. This was pretty cool, and kept us active!Aruba - Day 1 - The Beach - Our first day in Aruba was filled with white sandy beaches, beach huts, para sailing, good food, and more.

Iguanas were everywhere. There were even ‘Do Not Feed the Iguana’ signs, much like the ‘Do Not Feed the Birds’ signs, too. We’ve seen so many that we decided to name them. From left to right, there’s Gordy, Alex, and George. How often do you get to see Iguanas?Aruba - Day 1 - The Beach - Our first day in Aruba was filled with white sandy beaches, beach huts, para sailing, good food, and more.

The first day on the beach, Cory and I both went para-sailing. Of course, I took my camera up with me! You’ll be glad to know though that I only used our Canon point and shoot the entire time. This was so much fun! Can’t wait to do it again.Aruba - Day 1 - The Beach - Our first day in Aruba was filled with white sandy beaches, beach huts, para sailing, good food, and more.

It was really nice to relax and completely shut ourselves from technology. I got to catch up on some reading, and woke up every morning not having to look good for anyone. Of course, we looked forward to delicious food! I’ll have to admit, I ate bacon almost every day for breakfast.

For Dinner: We tried white asparagus for the first time ever at Madame Jeanette’s, where we ate steak and drank wine from Argentina. We tried the mac-n-cheese from The Hard Rock (hello we can get that here and it’s awesome!), shrimp stuffed grouper with a wonderful saffron sauce. Oh and the deep fried Gouda cheese (Aruba is Dutch) and did you know it’s pronounced, “Howda.” Yes, two places in one night is not too bad! We love food, and stuffed the heck out of ourselves.

To end on Day 1 in Aruba, we watched the ‘Super Dancers!’ 🙂 They were a local dance troupe where the men wore tight white pants and knew how to shake it! The expression on Cory and Rob’s faces was priceless….worth laughs for years to come.

Want to see more of Aruba? You can catch us on Day 2-Part 1 as we explore the island!
