We had our 2nd book club meeting last Thursday. We have been reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I had already seen the Swedish film with subtitles (there is an American version coming up with Daniel Craig as the main male character) and already had a general idea of what the book would contain. The movie and the book aligned fairly well throughout, of course the book was much better as is the case usually.
It took the first 200+ pages to get through a lot of background information, but once the real plot got started it was hard to put the book down. There is one section that was a bit disturbing, that we discussed at our meeting, but if we had known it was there, some may not have read the book. But having gotten through it, everyone devoured the plot and is eager to read the 2nd and the 3rd in this series. So eager, in fact, that we are going to fit these books into our schedule! It just goes to show that while a book may not be your normal read, or if you find it a bit disturbing, scary, religious, political, you name it…if you just give it a try…you might like it more than you expect.
This time we held our fun get together at Kristy’s house and I have to say she raised the bar in terms of table decor. Anytime a table is set with chargers on the table, I get giddy. It’s just a very grown up experience and makes you feel special. Thanks Kristy! And to top it off she had Moose Tracks ice cream for dessert.
