Here is something that we must do EVERY SINGLE DAY! Every person needs the right amount of vitamins and minerals to function properly. Even though we do our best to maintain a healthy diet, it isn’t always enough. We are bound to slip up some days. Plus, even when we do our best, we still may be lacking in a certain area. Reasons to take your vitamins are crucial, find out what they are below.
If we wait until our body shows symptoms of a deficiency, usually that means we have been lacking proper nutrition for some time and have quite a deficit. Vitamins help us to fill the gaps and ensure that we are getting what we need. At the same time, we should not excessively load up on vitamins. An overdose is just as bad, inundating the body with far more than it should have.
Typically, taking a daily multi-vitamin will do the trick. From www.healthguidance.org, the most important vitamins are B6, B12, D, E and folic acid. These have been known to help prevent cancer and certain heart conditions. Of course we shouldn’t rely on vitamins alone for our good health. Eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, lean meats, and dairy is the ideal way to get your vitamins and minerals. Multi-vitamins are just an easy way to offer another level of protection.
One other note – Pregnant women (and those of childbearing age) especially need an adequate amount of folic acid. Prenatal vitamins provide this. Older women must ensure they get an adequate amount of calcium. An additional supplement may be needed to achieve this. Of course, you should consult your Doctor to find out what is the best vitamin supplement for you.
