Here’s a scenario for you. Your boss has been drilling you for the last week to get that report complete. You find out one of your kids’ is having trouble in school. Your furnace is on the fritz and is going to cost several thousands of dollars to fix. These are all conditions, and others like them, that make it difficult to be happy in life. But the question is,
can you actually make yourself happy just by changing how you think?
There’s plenty of evidence to support that you can indeed force yourself to be happy. In fact, simply by making yourself smile can be the catalyst for a negative day turnaround. While it won’t make all the day-to-day problems disappear, it will help to cope with them easier.
Can You Force Happiness to Happen?
One way to reinforce this happiness is to try and think about all that you have in life, rather than those everyday transient problems. The problems that will eventually go away.

You WILL finish your boss’ report and he’ll get off your back, at least temporarily. You WILL work with your kid that is having trouble or get him some extra help. You WILL find the funds required to fix the furnace. If you can picture those positive outcomes, the actual problems themselves will become less important.
Happiness Tricks of the Trade
Set up a vision of what it’s like to be happy and your brain will work to help you get there. When you are happy, the people that you work and live with will naturally pick up on this. It can be contagious. Try yoga as a great way to increase your happiness everyday.
There are certainly going to be times when no matter how hard you try you simply can’t get past feeling a bit down. In these instances, it pays to talk to friends and family. Sometimes, just having someone listen to you can turn around your mood. A few of those people may give you guidance on how to get around some of the problems you are facing and this can really help to lighten the burden. This will help you set the stage for happiness.
Set the stage for happiness with positive and supportive relationships.
Another way to help yourself be happy is to take a break once in awhile. Spend more time on your hobbies or book a mini vacation with your family. People really do need to recharge themselves and get away from the usual routines. It lets you see life from a different perspective and allows you to think more clearly. This can be all that is needed to turn around negative situations and relieve the tensions that prevent you from being happy.
